My Story of Magnificent Changes
"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
~George Bernard Shaw, American Playwright
Amy's Story
Magnificent change seems to be a recurring theme in Amy's life--and with Magnificent Change comes some necessary (sometimes inevitable) struggle and ability to adapt.

After two years of college following high school, Amy had enough. College didn't suit her. She decided to take her long-time passion as a stage actress to N.Y.C. It was there she auditioned at a prestigious acting school, grew as an artist and human being. Stepping into the shoes of others (even if they were fictional) to better connect and understand human nature felt natural. A desire to learn more about what's inside of people lead her back to college in her second half of life to earn a degree in psychology.

In her early twenties, after a few years of professional work on the stage and with people she only dreamed of working with she suddenly found herself stepping into the shoes of a caregiver in real life. Her college sweetheart (whom she was living with and later became her husband) suffered a significant life change after a devastating and permanent spinal cord injury.

Through that season of life and many ups and downs, Amy managed to stay active in the theatre, if only part-time and went back and forth between New Jersey and N.Y.C. to attend auditions and perform plays in two theatre companies. As much as Amy loved the theatre, she knew she loved her relationship more and was experiencing some burnout she could no longer deny. So, she stepped off the stage to devote full attention to building her life at home--a decision she has never once regretted.

The Magnificent Changes that unfolded after almost two decades of caregiving came from Amy's persistent efforts to understand caregiver burnout and do her best to stay in optimal health. Amy learned that a choice to jog with perseverance could sometimes leave you out of breath, and this is where she learned to breath more deeply. Along the way, Amy stayed active as a volunteer in her community, creating everything from support groups to puppet theatre for a local animal shelter and television station. She worked as an entrepreneur, and business owner which quenched a thirst to keep moving and growing and created a lifestyle to meet her schedule as a caregiver at home.

Several years later, after all the doctors said it wasn't possible, Amy and her husband welcomed healthy biological twin girls (6 pounds each!)--a time of Magnificent Joy and reward through many grueling struggles.

As with her marriage season, it came to an end when the girls were five years old. It was one of grief and necessary change for both she and her husband. Today, Amy is happily remarried and has maintained a long-time friendship with the father of her twin daughters, now sixteen.
